FIRM 2022

Overview

Stemming from the role of dialogue in an enriching thought, development, and the role of the higher education sector in manufacturing and innovation, Texas A&M University at Qatar, partners with AIN holding in establishing the first edition of the “Industrial Repair and Maintenance Forum” (FIRM) where they presented “The flexibility of infrastructure for repair and maintenance and the speed of its response in Supporting a strong national economy”. The forum has witnessed enthusiastic participation from the educational, public, and private sectors, and a number of government officials.

Recap

The forum was inaugurated by Dr. Cesar Malavé, Dean of Texas A&M University at Qatar, with a welcoming speech for the attendees. The first keynote presentation titled “The Value and Impact of Repair and Maintenance on the Economy” was delivered by Engineer Chilam Prasad of Castoline Eutectic FZE. The second keynote presentation was titled “Technological Advances in On-Demand Manufacturing and Supply Engineering Components” presented by Dr. Marwan Khraisheh, Professor, and program chair of the Mechanical Engineering program at Texas A&M University at Qatar.

The forum included a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Bilal Mansoor, and participation from H.E. Saleh bin Majid Al-Khulaifi, Assistant Undersecretary for Trade Affairs at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Basil Shedid, Director of the Industrial Investment Department at the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting, Mr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Bin Ali, Chairman and CEO of Qatar Technical International Metal Industries Company, Mr. Gaurav Kakkar from Moores Consulting and Dr. Tarek Mohamed Atata, a subject matter expert at Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO).

The third section of the forum consisted of floor discussion and open questions from the attendees to the panelists. Topics such as governmental incentives, role of education, network of suppliers, tenders, and supply chain shortages were discussed. The attendees have shown interest in the open dialogue and were grateful for having the opportunity for presenting their concerns and opinions with companies who shares similar issues.

Texas A&M University at Qatar and AIN holding believe in the role of dialogue and bringing multiple sectors in Qatar under common goal towards serving Qatar’s economy and through dwelling on local talents and resources.
